On 29 October 2024, SSDF, in partnership with Oxfam, met with the Mayor of Balad District in Salah Al-Din Governorate, Iraq, to discuss a new agriculture project targeting Al Farhatiya, Balad Station, and Arab Wasl villages in Balad District, as well as Al Haidariya and Al Shahabi villages in Dujail District. The Mayor expressed appreciation for SSDF's efforts and pledged support for the project by facilitating official letters to the relevant security authorities. In addition, SSDF met with the Director of the NGOs Department in Salah Al-Din Governorate to arrange for an official letter, signed by the Governor, to facilitate project implementation and address the Mayors of Balad and Dujail. Implemented in partnership with Oxfam, the project aims to support farmers, particularly women-headed households, through agricultural training, farmer field schools, and the provision of essential equipment and fertilizers. The project also promotes climate-smart and high-value agricultural practices, improves irrigation systems by converting open canals into closed irrigation channels, and raises awareness of water conservation. Furthermore, it will strengthen farmers' capacities to participate in agricultural associations, enabling them to effectively engage with and advocate before the relevant authorities.

As part of the PPL Program, SSDF, in partnership with Save the Children (SCI), delivered a five-day training on Preventing Violent Extremism (PVE) for 25 teachers in Samarra and Balad districts, Salah Al-Din Governorate, Iraq. The training aimed to strengthen participants' understanding and capacity to prevent and address violent extremism within educational settings. It also highlighted the role of education in promoting peace and tolerance, while introducing strategies and tools for PVE interventions. The PPL Program also seeks to improve the physical and learning environment in schools through minor rehabilitation activities, including classroom repairs, the provision of furniture and equipment, and improvements to safety and hygiene standards.

As part of ongoing efforts to foster community engagement, cohesion, and stability in Salah Al-Din Governorate, SSDF, in partnership with the International Organization for Migration (IOM), inaugurated art exhibitions featuring students from four selected schools in Tuz and Suleiman Beik, Iraq. The event was officially opened by the Director of Tuz Education Department and the Manager of the Fine Arts Division in Salah Al-Din, in the presence of educational supervisors, school principals, teachers, and students from the targeted schools. The exhibitions not only showcased the students' artistic talents and creativity but also served as a platform to promote community engagement and social reintegration. By involving key education and arts leaders, the initiative highlighted the importance of culture and the arts as a cornerstone for rebuilding and stabilizing post-conflict communities, while providing a meaningful space for expression and dialogue.

As part of the ongoing effort to map service and non-service providers in Sinjar, Ninewa Governorate, SSDF, in partnership with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and funded by USAID, conducted a visit to the Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Center operated by the Baghdad Women's Association (BWA) in Sinjar. The visit provided an opportunity for productive discussions with BWA on referral pathways for survivors of gender-based violence. During the meeting, the SSDF team presented an overview of the activities and services provided through its GBV Center, while also learning about the services offered by the BWA center. The two organizations exchanged contact information to strengthen collaboration and establish more effective referral mechanisms, contributing to a coordinated network that ensures timely and comprehensive support for people in need.

SSDF, in partnership with Save the Children, conducted a Psychosocial Support (PSS) training for 25 teachers (14 females and 11 males) in Balad, Salah Al-Din, Iraq. The training aimed to equip participants with the skills and knowledge needed to provide effective psychosocial support to students facing emotional and mental health challenges. The sessions covered key aspects of psychosocial support, including identifying signs of psychological distress, supportive communication, and the implementation of coping strategies. This initiative is part of the PPL Programme, which aims to improve schools through minor rehabilitation activities to ensure quality education and foster a positive learning environment.

On 2 April 2024, SSDF, in partnership with the International Organization for Migration (IOM), conducted three Community-Based Listening Circles sessions in Balad District, Salah Al-Din Governorate, Iraq. The sessions brought together 75 participants from three targeted locations—Azeez Balad, Al Rawashid, and Sayed Ghareeb Sub-districts—including community leaders and key local stakeholders. The Listening Circles aimed to better understand and address challenges related to community engagement, the reintegration process, and social acceptance within the targeted areas. Through active participation and discussion, valuable insights were gathered, contributing to a deeper understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing the local communities.
