Our Story
Sorouh for Sustainable Development Foundation (SSDF) is a nationally registered Iraqi non-profit, non-governmental organization established in 2009, registered with both the Government of Iraq (GoI) and the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG).
Rooted in Iraqi communities and led by national expertise, SSDF has grown from a locally established civil society organization into a trusted national development and humanitarian actor—today operating with a team of over 40 staff and a track record of 150+ implemented projects across Iraq.
For more than sixteen years, SSDF has worked alongside children, young people, women, displaced people, refugees, and conflict-affected communities; government institutions; United Nations agencies; international organizations; universities; and local civil society—responding to humanitarian needs while supporting recovery, resilience, and sustainable development. Our programs are locally led, conflict-sensitive, gender-responsive, disability-inclusive, and grounded in the priorities of the communities we serve.
SSDF believes that sustainable change is strongest when communities are not only beneficiaries but also active partners and leaders in shaping their own future. This principle continues to guide our work as we connect humanitarian response with recovery, resilience, and long-term development across Iraq.
