On 18 October 2024, the Director of SSDF visited the University of Duhok to follow up on the implementation of the DAFI (Albert Einstein German Academic Refugee Initiative) Programme, which is implemented by SSDF in partnership with UNHCR Iraq. The programme currently provides scholarships to 91 refugee students studying at 21 universities across Iraq, including 41 students in Duhok, 30 in Erbil, 6 in Sulaymaniyah, and 18 in Baghdad. During the visit, meetings were held with UNHCR education staff and SSDF field staff in Duhok to discuss the progress of the programme. The visit also included a meeting with the Director of the Career Development Center at the University of Duhok to explore opportunities for cooperation and support for the DAFI Programme. In addition, the SSDF Director met with members of the DAFI Club, a student-led initiative that provides refugee students with opportunities to develop leadership skills, organize community activities, and support one another.
